How to be a runner...

As of late, I've decided I want to be a runner. Not one of those short shorts, marathon, pushing it to the max runners, no I'm thinking more along the lines of if I feel like it, when the weather is just right and I have some good music to jam to, that's the kind of runner I want to be.
It all started when I was taking my morning walk with some girls in my neighborhood and I got paired up with an avid runner who recently had a baby. So I thought to myself, this is it! I'll ask her now while she is just getting back into the groove of things, and maybe her enthusiasm for running will wear off on me! So I casually mentioned, 'hey are you going running anythime soon?' turns out she was going that very night, 8pm corner of B and D (I would mention the actual streets here, course I'd probably have an internet crazy person sitting on the corner waiting for me tonight, so I'll refrain). So 8pm rolls around and I bust out my workout pants and an old college T-shirt and off I go. WOW, what a wake up call, now I remember why I am not a runner! That girl took off and I could barely keep up. There I was, huffing and puffing about a yard behind her trying really hard not to puke my guts out. Not a great experience. But I kept going, thinking this girl just had a baby a few months ago, I have to at least be able to finish....forget trying to keep up! So we finished at about 2 1/2 miles. I don't think I've ever ran 2 1/2 miles straight, I've mostly been a run/walk/run a little more/walk a LOT more kind of girl.
So once I got my breath back and could see straight, I was pretty proud of myself. Boy oh boy did my muscles regret it the next day...it hurt to stand up and sit down, but ya know what, it was a good kind of hurt. The kind that reminds you that you did something good for your body the day before, and even encouraged me to get out and do it again the next day. That was last week, and this week I've actually gotten out 3 times. I'll thank the Lakers for that actually, cause Matt is so engrossed in the game I don't even have the excuse to spend time with my husband :) So my new goal is to run at least 3 times a week, and maybe, just maybe, I'll consider a 5k.

That is awesome! I'm a big jealous.. I always want to go out running when I can't..and then when I can, it seems I can't get the motivation. But right now, a good run sounds wonderful.
